The Foundation was created to support animal sheltering efforts and raise awareness about spaying and neutering. In 2019, we expanded our mission from Shawnee County to the entire northeast region of Kansas. We remain committed to our founding principles by providing financial support to animal welfare organizations through several different types of grant opportunities.

Capital Improvement Grant Recipients

2023:

Doniphan County Pet Rescue | $5,000.00

At the time of their grant application, the Rescue had no running water in the shelter. In order to water the animals daily, volunteers would haul in jugs of fresh water. This also meant that there was no restroom or laundry facilities. Because of this grant, they were able to install a waterline to the building and start construction on a restroom and laundy room.

Leavenworth County Humane Society | $3,500.00

Sponsored new cat kennels for the shelter, replacing old enclosures that were pieced together by older miscellaneous kennels.

Lawrence Humane Society | $3,000.00

Provided support to Lawrence Humane to replace computers that are used by staff to complete the adoption process.

Clear the Shelters Grants

NKAWF is a proud sponsor of Clear the Shelters. This nationwide pet adoption campaign hosted by NBC Universal results in a tremendous amount of publicity for adoptable shelter pets and has helped hundreds of thousands of pets find their forever homes. We partner with KSNT to promote pet adoptions in NE Kansas. As part of that sponsorship, we're able to award grants to some of the participating shelters.
